First-Year and Transfer Students
Apply as a First-Year student if you:
- are a current high school student
- are a high school graduate that has not enrolled at a college or university
First-Year students apply with the SAU application or the Common App.
Apply to transfer to St. Ambrose University if you:
- have completed 12+ credits (post-high school) at another institution
Transfer students apply with the SAU application.
The following is required to apply for First-Year admission to St. Ambrose University:
- Cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 unweighted scale) from an accredited high school
- Academic Transcript. Ask your high school to send your academic transcripts to St. Ambrose University
- (Optional) Send your test scores. St. Ambrose University has a test-optional* admissions process, but if you would like to submit scores, please make sure they are submitted either on high school transcript(s) or from the appropriate testing service. Send your test score(s) to St. Ambrose by using these codes, ACT: 1352, SAT: 6617
- Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English proficiency requirement for admission

The following is required to apply for Transfer admission to St. Ambrose University:
- Have completed 12 college transferable credits of academic work from a fully accredited institution of higher education.1
- Maintained a 2.0 grade point average or above (on a 4.0 scale).
- Submit transcripts of all prior work at higher education levels.
- Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English proficency requirement for admission

Determining Your Rank
Depending on the number of credits you already have earned, the following table tells you what your incoming rank at St. Ambrose would be:
Freshman: 0-29 credits
Sophomore: 30-59 credits
Junior: 60-89 credits
Senior: 90 and more credits
Already Have Your AA or AS Degree?
If you've already earned an AA or AS (Associate of Arts or Associate of Science) degree from a two-year college, you typically would enter St. Ambrose with 60 credit hours and junior status.

If you passed the General Education Development Test (GED), and have an ACT composite score of 18 or an SAT score of 860, you meet our academic requirements.
If you've been out of high school (or the equivalent) for at least five years, you don't need SAT or ACT scores.
If you passed the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) and have an ACT composite score of 18 or an SAT score of 860, you meet our academic requirements.
If you've been out of high school (or the equivalent) for at least five years, you don't need SAT or ACT scores.
